Oxford, UK March 22, 2009

When you find a group of friends who mean everything to you, you will generally find that they are willing to traverse the world to spend time with you no matter where you live and vice versa. I’ve got 6 of those friends who, sadly, I had to leave behind when we moved overseas. But, in true friendship form, they made the trip over with husbands (also friends) in tow to spend the week with Eric and me. Carl, Bo, Lesley and Heath journeyed from Indiana and North Carolina to spend the last week of March with us.

One of the highlights of their stay was a short day trip to Oxford. Eric and I had never been, but had heard great things from both alumni and tourists. There is an Oxford Tube coach bus that leaves from Notting Hill and takes around an hour and a half to get there.

Upon arrival we did the following: had a wee, walked through a few lovely courtyards and quads, saw Christ Church (from the outside) and a few men wearing bells and blackfaces, passed the Radcliffe Camera reading room which is connected to the largest library in Europe (Bodleian), then pulled up a picnic table for the afternoon at Turf Tavern – where apparently ‘Bill Clinton didn’t inhale.’ It was an experience to see some of the sights on campus, but I feel we merely scratched the surface. Looking forward to our second visit when one of our friends enrolls as a student in the fall.
